Extracurricular Resources

Multiple opportunities are available for postgraduates in terms of extracurricular resources to meet research fellows with common interests, to exchange ideas and to present research findings, including to serve as a research assistant for professors in Southeast Asia research community groups at Wenzao, to interact with industrial experts or oversea faculty invited to various Southeast Asia International Affairs forums, and to present research findings at annual Southeast Asia International Conference hosted by Wenzao. Since 2015, Wenzao has also cooperated with local NGO named "Kaohsiung Southeast Asia Industry and Academic Exchange Association (KAOSEAS)" to connect Wenzao with oversea Taiwanese enterprises by annually initiating four different oversea Taiwanese enterprise one-week field trips to Ho Chi Minh city, Hanoi, Bangkok and Jakarta.

  • 2017 Wenzao International Conference on Southeast Asian Studies
Wenzao is going to hold “2017 Wenzao International Conference on Southeast Asian Studies” in October, 2017.  The theme is “Borders, Boundaries and Beyond,” covering three main topics: Southeast Asian languages, Southeast Asian governments and societies, and Southeast Asian enterprises and properties.   More than 100 overseas and Taiwanese researchers and experts will present their findings on Southeast Asia.

  • Southeast Asia International Affairs Forum
The Department of International Affairs also held the “Southeast Asia International Affairs Forum” in the academic year 2015/16.  The forum was a 3-week event.  The researchers and experts in international politics and diplomacy from Vietnam, the Philippines, and Indonesia were invited to attend this event for 1 week as visiting scholars.  More than 15 symposiums on diplomatic affairs and political economy of development in Southeast Asia took place, benefiting more than 500 students and faculty.

  • Oversea Taiwanese Enterprise Field Trips in Southeast Asia
Since 2015, Wenzao has also cooperated with local NGO named "Kaohsiung Southeast Asia Industry and Academic Exchange Association (KAOSEAS)" to connect Wenzao with oversea Taiwanese enterprises by annually initiating four different oversea Taiwanese enterprise one-week field trips to Ho Chi Minh city, Hanoi, Bangkok and Jakarta.  Hopefully, there will be more students of the Master in Southeast Asian Studies program taking part in the visits in the near future.  Furthermore, through the assistance of Southeast Asian Studies advisors, students will find a placement in a community or an industry, applying their expertise and getting involved in types of international affairs or social entrepreneurship.
